There was no surprise that the forecast was calling for rain. This wedding season on the East Coast has been unusually rainy, but we persevered regardless!! When I arrived I could tell that Michelle was concerned about not being able to have the ceremony outside and even more concerned that the photos she had imagined in the beautiful gardens may not be possible. The gardens and landscaping at Green Grove Gardens is breathtaking and both Michelle and Brandon had high hopes of using the grounds for some amazing images. I met with the wedding coordinator, Keith… who by the way is absolute fantastic to work with, and went over the plan A, ceremony outside, and the plan B, ceremony inside. We were all holding out hope for a break in the downpours at ceremony time.
These two were keeping their ceremony fairly traditional and had decided not to have a “first look”… Brandon wanted the first time he saw his beautiful bride to be as she walked to him down the aisle… so we played a bit of “hide and seek” to keep Michelle out of sight. With the rain pouring down we captured some bridal party images inside the venue before Brandon arrived with his groomsmen. Once we saw some sunshine and a break in the rain I grabbed the girls for some quick, very quick, outside shots before the rain hit us once again.
As the day went on we dodged downpour after downpour. Everyone you saw was walking around, nose in their phones, watching the radar, and attempting to predict how long the storms would last. When it was noticed that there could be a break in the clouds right around ceremony time Michelle and Keith decided to go for it and have the ceremony outside as originally planned. The staff at the venue, the groom, family members, and anyone else they could grab started drying off the chairs and gathering umbrellas just in case. There were a couple sprinkles and a fine mist but the sun parted the clouds and Michelle and Brandon had their dream come true of an outdoor ceremony and it was perfect!!
We had quite a few portraits to capture since there wasn’t a first look so after a small breather for the bridal party and family members we got down to the task of fulfilling Brandon and Michelle’s dreams of using the gorgeous scenery as the backdrop for their wedding portraits… the Gods were with us because we were able to capture those portraits for them… and the colors in the sky from the mixture of rain, mist, clouds, and sun were completely breathtaking!!
Brandon and Michelle were such a dream to work with, they planned for the perfect amount of time between ceremony and reception to make sure they got exactly what they wanted with their wedding portraits. Through all of the rain, saturated ground, and concerns about holding the ceremony outside not once did their faith falter… they knew that at the end of the day they would be creating a marriage and that was the most important part of the day.
